Owner Of The Week: Michael Peterson

Outdoorsy Owner Michael Peterson bought his first RV back in 2011 — a whim purchase, he says. He and his wife loved it so much, they bought their current rig, which they now rent out on Outdoorsy, in 2013.

“We loved the size of the second RV because it meant we could accommodate friends and family on trips,” he says.

The 31-foot custom travel trailer sleeps nine. It comes equipped with a queen-size bed, full kitchen stove and microwave, AC and heat, two TVs that swivel, an outdoor kitchen with TV and outdoor speakers, an awning, all bedding and essential kitchen and grill items, an attached grill, and custom glass windows.

The duo has shared their space with loved ones on more than one occasion. In fact, some of Michael’s favorite memories include time spent RVing with friends. “Our best camping memories are with our family and friends, spending every Memorial Day weekend at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,” Michael says.

Unfortunately, even going out with friends and family as often as they could wasn’t enough to make it worth keeping their beloved RV.

“It was too hard to sell the RV and we were basically losing money not using it,” Michael explains. “Then a friend of mine told us about Outdoorsy, and we thought, ‘Let’s try it!’

The camping fanatic listed his RV on the Outdoorsy website for $100/night and had his first renter about a month later. “In a one-year time frame, we’ve made about $11,000,” Michael says. “We’ve had to make a few wear-and-tear repairs, but nothing we wouldn’t have had to fix anyway even if we weren’t renting.”

These numbers aren’t unusual for Outdoorsy owners, and Michael has a few ideas on why he’s seen so much success. “I think I’m competitively priced and I’m willing to deliver, which is big in my area,” he explains. “I also try to keep the RV in good repair and provide stuff my renters might say it needs in my reviews.”

“I hope my camper helps renters build memories, and if they’re interested in buying a camper, I hope it helps them make those decisions,” he adds. “All my renters are wonderful. From those having family outings and reunions to those enjoying large friend get-togethers, all my renters help me make good memories.”
