Christy Tull loves the natural beauty that the world has to offer, and makes a point of surrounding herself with just that. How? She bought a campervan, of course!
“Camping in a campervan provides all the comforts of a hotel that you can park anywhere,” Christy tells us. “My favorite activity is simply the act of opening my eyes in the morning and looking out the back windows to see what mother nature has provided. We stay off-grid and in the mountains most often, and the scenery is breathtaking. It sounds so simple, but the world is crazy and people go 90 MPH, and when I open my eyes to a field of wildflowers, a hillside of aspens, a mountain of pine covered in snow, or when I see a deer, bear, bighorn sheep, or even a ground squirrel, it’s just a reminder of all the beauty that our world offers if we simply open our eyes.”
Unfortunately, Tull can’t spend all of her time out in nature. Not wanting to let her van sit, she came up with an idea. “When I bought the van, I had no idea about renting it out,” she says. “I decided to check into it this year because we didn’t plan to use it much in the summer and thought it might be a way to make a little extra money.”
Christy tried listing on a few different platforms and had immediate success, including some very quick rental requests on Outdoorsy. “I had a rental secured before I actually had any pictures,” she recalls about her Outdoorsy listing. “It was only 2–3 days from the initial listing.”
Since then, Tull has had quite a bit of success sending her unit out into the world. Part of this is likely due to how unusual and easy to use her van is. “Campervans are unique to the rental world because they fit in a regular parking spot, go through a drive-thru, and drive like a car, yet contain a whole house,” she explains. “We also finished out our van to accommodate anyone 6’3” or shorter. My husband is 6’3” so the entire build was designed around his ability to stand up straight and lay comfortably in the bed. Mission accomplished!”
Another mission Christy has accomplished? Sharing her love of nature with others. “I hope my van gives renters confidence to explore off-grid, away from people, out of campgrounds. I want our renters to get to see the beauty I so love.” We’d say Christy is doing a pretty good job.
