Being young doesn’t mean you can’t be successful, a fact proven by 24-year-old Outdoorsy Owner Steven McFarland. This inspirational young man has had an astounding number of successes.
“I am a mechanical engineer full-time and I also work part-time at my father’s shop, Valleybrook RV Body & Paint, fixing all types of RVs,” McFarland says. The Pennsylvania-based owner also maintains and rents two RVs on Outdoorsy, all while attending school.
McFarland knew what he was doing when he invested in his travel trailers.
“I bought my travel trailers because I knew I would be able to rent them out for most of the summer. I was also looking forward to the weekends when they weren’t being rented, so I could travel to some local campgrounds,” he explains, adding that his experience fixing and maintaining RVs for several years and his knowledge about RVs helps him thoroughly prepare his trailers for rentals — which, he says, leads to great trips for renters!
After purchasing his brand new travel trailers earlier this year, Steven listed them on Outdoorsy. “I chose Outdoorsy because they do a great job of communicating with the renters and the owners,” McFarland says. “Outdoorsy is also constantly looking to improve and provide a better experience for everyone involved.”
Right after listing on the platform, business began rolling in.
“I received my first booking within a week of posting on Outdoorsy,” he recalls. “This is my first season, so I have been on Outdoorsy for about five months now. Within that time, I have made about $6,000. I have been using my profits from this season to help pay my student loans.”
McFarland adds that he’s looking forward to growing his fleet next season.
“My only concern when choosing to rent was how well the trailers would be treated when rented,” he explains. “However, I have not had a bad experience yet! I would definitely recommend [listing on] Outdoorsy to anyone who has an RV. It’s a great way to earn extra money while meeting people in your community who are interested in the same things as you.”
