EmpfehlungenThey don’t call the island of Hawai’i “The Big Island” for nothing - it’s huge! Exploring via camper van is one of the best ways to see all the sites and avoid excessive driving (and costs) between your lodging and next adventure. If you’ve rented a camper van on the mainland before, you should know it’s a little different on the Big Island. It’s technically illegal to sleep in a vehicle in public spaces. I have put together a map of spots on the island where you could park overnight - secret spots, campgrounds that you will need to obtain a permit beforehand, and places to park in a pinch. My renters have had no issues with just a little bit of forethought and being mindful of where I park overnight. I give you everything you need to plan in advance (the more you prep, the better your stay will be!).Weitere wichtige DingePickup and Drop off: Pickup is after 4pm or later and dropped off by 10 am.Pets are welcome!
If you can find a festival, you are welcome to take her there!
No smokingProhibited areas:
Due to Bertha not having 4WD, you are not permitted to take her to Makalawena Beach, Green Sands Beach, Waipio Valley, or past the Visitor Center at Mauna Kea. You may hire local services to take you to these locations in a 4x4 vehicle. The van is equipped with a GPS that will alert us if she is in any of these locations, at which point you will be fined $1,000 in addition to the cost of any damage to the vehicle (which there undoubtedly will be, assuming you are even able to get the van back to the road, which you will not).

We had the best time on Big Island thanks to Big Bertha and all of Bri’s recommendations!! What a perfect way to explore the island. My only complaint is that I wish we had her longer and had more time to explore. Thanks for such a wonderful experience!
Antwort von Bri
Awe, thanks Jesse! So glad it was a great experience and you are welcome back any time :)

Big Island Bertha was a pleasure to have as our mobile home for our first visit to the Big Island! She drives great, has plenty of amenities and features that made our stay on the island smooth and easy breezy. I think one of the biggest perks is having Bri to answer all your (7 Million in my case) questions about activities and locations. She was endlessly kind when I asked about everything from places to stay, to the highlight activities (Mauna Kea and such) and much more. I really can’t recommend this experience enough, a 5 star and then some rating. Much thanks again to Bri and hope to be back again soon!

Bri was super kind and helpful with all the questions we had. The van worked great for us. The bed was very comfortable and the van was well stocked. We brought a couple of coolers which was helpful to avoid using the refrigerator all the time as it eats up quite a bit of energy. We were surprised by how well insulated the van is. We followed Bri’s advice to use the visor on the windshield whenever leaving the van under the sun for significant stretches of time, but even the couple of times we didn’t the van stayed fairly cool. Highly recommend Bri and Bertha!

Thanks so much Laura! I'm so glad you had a great trip and thanks so much for taking good care of Bertha and traveling bringing the spirit of Aloha with you 💛
